Manure Spreader - $1 (Washington D.C.)

Fifty-year old manure spreader. Not sure of brand. Said to have been produced in Kenya. Used for a few years in Indonesia before being smuggled into the US via Hawaii. Of questionable pedigree. Does not appear to have ever been worked hard. Apparently, it was pampered by various owners over the years. It doesn't work very often, but when it does it can sling shit for amazing distances. I am hoping to retire the manure spreader this November. I really don't want it hanging around getting in the way. I would prefer a foreign buyer to relocate the manure spreader out of the country. I would be willing to trade it for a nicely framed copy of the United States Constitution.

Location: Currently being stored in a big white house in Washington, D.C.

Obama = White Guy in Blackface

Obama...basically a smart, middle class white guy with dark skin and an unusual life story who reinvented himself as a black guy for reasons of political opportunism and self-fulfillment.

What Do We Do Now? - Seen This Movie Before

“…if Barack was going to run, he had to decide quickly, a point the group made by laying out primary schedules and game plans for fund-raising and building an organization. Insights were offered from around the room.

It was Michelle, Axelrod remembers, who stopped the show. “You need to ask yourself, Why do you want to do this?” she said directly. “What are hoping to uniquely accomplish, Barack?”

Obama sat quietly for a moment, and everyone waited. “This I know: When I raise my hand and take that oath of office, I think the world will look at us differently,” he said. “And millions of kids across this country will look at themselves differently.””

Obama - Always Give In To Threats

I think it's tempting not to negotiate with hostage-takers, unless the hostage gets harmed. Then people will question the wisdom of that strategy.

B. Hussein Obama, Noted Kenyan-American

Obama gave the above statement that after making a deal with congressional Republicans on maintaining tax cuts for billionaires. The problem is hostage taking as a crime has died in most countries is that people nad police have learned that dealing with hostage takers encourage them. It also an easy crime to prove since the criminals have to communicate to get the money.

Obama, The Future Footnote

In a story on Simon Johnson's blog, President Obama On CEO Compensation At Too Big To Fail Banks, a cleverly named markets.aurelius (sic) has this reaction.

Sad to think Obama’s goal, and that of his handlers, was to become a very prominent footnote in American history. Being elected and feted for 4 years is more than anyone dared hope for. They got in: Mission accomplished.

How To Get Ahead in Politics and Publishing

In an AH.com there was an argument over SM Sterling, My opinion of Stirling's ISOT and Emberverse Series. Sterling is contentious figure who has been banned from AH.com after getting into an discussion about containing moslem terrorism. On the other hand he is very influential on the entire genre of alternate history. Many topics discussed on AH.com are derived from concepts and scenarios that Sterling first developed. When the the entwined concerns of literary and commercial merit came up, with the usual slagging anything that is popular, the conversation deadened until Tom Kalbfus brought up too subtle slagging of a successful politico/author.

I think time and only time is the true test of a classic work. If someone writes a book and many copies are sold and 50 years later people are still buying many copies of that book, that may be a classic.

There are of course other reasons people might buy many copies of a book, for instance the writer happens to be a politician, maybe a Senator for instance. The Senator does one of his constituents a favor, but he doesn't want to be seen accepting kickbacks, so what does he do? He writes a book, not a particularly well written book, but somehow it still sells lots of copies, imagine that, in fact the author makes $6,000,000 from the sales of his book, and then just as mysteriously the book sales plumment, but the Senator is still happy, he deposits his money in his bank account, and then asks other wealthy and influential constituents if there is anything he can do for them, and then he mentions the book he has written.

I have no one in particular in mind, its just a hypothetical example of how someone may well many books without being a good writer.

Vetting Barry Soetoro

In the big todo about the vetting questionnaire that the embryonic Obama administration is exciting the blogosphere. Many have pointed out the hypocrisy of during the campaign(s) saying that friends and associates don't matter and now insisting on the opposite. In the comments of one blogpost at ABC a Tero remarks:
It appears that Obama couldn't get a job in his own administration. Admitted cocaine use, long standing membership in a racist church, political associationships with admitted terrorists, communists and marxists, sweetheart real estate deal with a convicted felon, refusal to produce college transcripts, refusal to produce articles and college thesis authored by him, association with candidate for Kenyan presidency, and on and on. He should fire himself immediately.
At Sound Politics a blogpost gives this suming up of Barry Soetoro/Barack Obama/Barry Obama:
It appears that we have elected a president with the charm of Kennedy, the ideology of Carter and the paranoia of Nixon.

Obama as a Mythological Character

As far back as last spring, also when this editorial cartoon was printed, an OpEd piece in the LA Times by David Ehrenstein, Obama the 'Magic Negro, refered to how THE ONE's worshipers see Bambi as a magical being, a magic negro, who well solve all of life's problems.

For as with all Magic Negroes, the less real he seems, the more desirable he becomes. If he were real, white America couldn't project all its fantasies of curative black benevolence on him.
