Rick Santorum Promotes Heavy Metal to Today's Teens

News reports, actually one blogger,  have him denouncing heavy metal as "satanic".  He goes on to condemn "new' bands such as Black Sabbath (founded 1969). This is probably satire, highly plausible satire. However Santorum (NSFW) is known for taking extreme positions. 

This is the best thing that has happened to Heavy Metal for a long time.

Graphic designers have a job/profession/calling that looks easy from the outside. Computer technology has made what was once time consuming, difficult and complicated easy. Earlier graphic techniques and technology was as difficult to use as to use well.

Here (pt 1, pt 2 and pt 3) is the slap down of Jim Cramer and by extension the vacuity of TV business journalism. I don't have a problem with business journalism. Much of its content can be best parts of the newspaper with long and detailed articles by knowledgeable beat reporters. But that is written journalism. Much of live TV "news" shows are merely a display of stream of conciousness. When not giving updates the hours are filled with rambling mumblings of touts, cheats and hacks.

Theft Worse Than Murder - Concerned Parent

A suit is being settled against the makers Grand Theft Auto III, Hidden Sex Scenes Draw Ho-Hum, Except From Lawyers. The suit was over some hidden scenes that had more graphic sexual content then the graphic violent content of the rest of the game. Some lawyers got together and started a class action suit for the "aggrieved" buyers of GTA III. In a out of court settlement any buyer who was offended can get their money back. So far only exactly 2,676 filed claims. The plaintiffs are getting $30K and the lawyers $1.3 million. I have played some of the GTA games. Computer games franchises and sequels do very well and many who bought GTA III had played earlier versions and iterations and knew the sort of game they were getting, a violent game where you role play a criminal. However some copies of this game was mistakenly bought by clueless parents.

For example, Brenda Stanhouse, who bought the game for her son, 15 years old at the time, said in a deposition that she did not know that a player in the game could “stomp to death innocent pedestrians.”

She also did not know that the game included prostitutes, that players could kill policemen or that “a player in the game can kill innocent pedestrians and steal money from them.”

“I’m aware that there is killing in the game,” Ms. Stanhouse said in the deposition. “I wasn’t aware of the stealing.”

Let us remember the lesson of the GTA lawsuit that you can steal more with a law degree than with a gun.

Condemned 2 a first person adventure game is a selling itself an interesting way. Normally ads for games focus on the game play and graphics. In this case instead of having the gory details front and center, which you can find with IGN review, it is promoting karmic rebalancing to deal with the horrific actions and scenes in the game. The ads are done with cute sugary animation and a song of evil. There are some brief glimpses of the actual but only enough to shock and encourage interest in a what is probably a pleasantly violent game.

Fitna, Or Why Muslims Hate Everybody

Dutch politician and film maker Geert Wilders has released his film Fitna today online. The film is an examination of number of violent passages from the Koran. These isolated verses are shown in context as the motivation of Muslim murderers and their fans. This motivation to kill is shown as Muslim mainstream behavior and theology.

Warning: the film is quite violence and graphic in parts.

Joe Veitch is an animator and musician. This recent ad seems to be ripping off the LOLcat phenomenon. However if you look at some of his earlier work and ads you discover he was was using this style well before every bulletin board was overrun with photoshopped images of kittens and bad spelling. You can fund more animations and songs at his blog Rathergood. Be warned there are number of songs that are definitely NSFW, stay away from anything to do the Royal Family or donkeys. There many other fine songs of his like, First Drink of the Day (mentioned on this blog nearly 3 years ago), Ninja Kitten or Looking for My Leopard.
