New Sears Campaign Makes Zombies Boring

Zombies and zombiism is normally such a fun and twisted corner of pop culture. They're kinda of cool. Sure, usually, well usually if the stars align. The above is taken from Sears.com, which in the run up to Halloween is targeting the zombie demographic.

Zombie Economics and Other Undead Ideas

Zombie Economics is a forthcoming book by John Quiggin. In introducing his book and the concept of the undead ideas, he writes:

Ideas are long-lived. They often outlive their originators, and, even when they have proved themselves wrong and dangerous, they are very hard to kill.

I would like to see other books on zombie ideas infesting politics and philosophy.

Latchkey Orphans & Zombies

(from Ads of the World)

On Ads of the World where I found this gem. A "guest" gave this description, "jaded suburban kids totally over the whole zombie thing". Ads for movie festivals like ads for zoos are some of the few types of "local" ads that have to have high production values. Car ads can be cool but ads for car dealers are strictly banal and formulaic. Movie festivals also have the burden of selling the "movie experience".

WWAZD - What Would A Zombie Do

This chart at graphjam, Things a Zombie Would Do, suggests that zombies would be very likely to dance with Michael Jackson. Zombies maybe soulless killing machines with a hunger for human brains however recent surveys indicate that zombies no longer want to hang out with Michael Jackson. There are also the issue of appropriation since Jackson took a traditional zombie folkdance and made it his own.

The Day the Muzak Died

According to reports the Muzak Corporation has filed for Chapter 11. In rosier times bankrupt companies were found it easy to borrow new money and to refinance their debt. Currently in the states even people and organizations with good credit are having problems borrowing money. What hope does a zombie corp have in getting brains, sorry I mean refinancing.

Zombies No Threat to Health

Dr. Oliver Morgan, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, has looked into the problem of corpse disposal after mass casualty events. He has discovered that that simple precautions, gloves, masks and hand washing, can reduce the risk of handling corpses. On the other hand mass graves is more disturbing to the the survivors mental health than the physical risk of dead bodies.

Here is a journal article.
Here is Dr Morgan discussing his finding.
